On the last Sunday in September, events are held in more than 100 countries in response to the World Heart Federation’ call. World Heart Day is an annual event that is intended to raise awareness of the fight against cardiovascular diseases and the importance of cardiovascular health.
Cardiovascular diseases could be avoided by screening tests
Heart attacks and stroke due to cardiovascular disorders are among the leading causes of death worldwide, accounting for almost one in two deaths from circulatory issues. Additionally, cardiovascular abnormality can also be a major cause of the deteriorating quality of life and disability. The main risk factors for cardiovascular disease are smoking, high blood pressure and high cholesterol level, which are directly linked to lifestyle, dietary habits and physical activity. These diseases can therefore be prevented in most cases by a healthy lifestyle, regular screening and early detection.
Healthy lifestyle, lifestyle changes can help in the promotion of heart health
The proportion of regular alcohol consumers and smokers is much higher relative to the EU average; moreover, a large proportion of the population is characterized by sedentary lifestyle. These causes account for nearly 80% of cardiovascular deaths.
It is important to highlight that most of the cardiovascular diseases could be prevented by regular screening tests and lifestyle changes. World Heart Day aims to raise awareness of these facts.
