Diabetes is the most common metabolic disease in the world. Nearly one million people in Hungary have been diagnosed with diabetes. Regular laboratory tests and keeping blood sugar levels in the normal/healthy range can slow or even stop kidney damage caused by diabetes.

Diabetes can have a number of serious complications, including diabetic nephropathy, which is damage to the kidneys. High blood glucose levels damage the blood vessels of the kidneys, leading to impaired kidney filtration function, which can lead to kidney failure in the long term.

With early detection and appropriate treatment, the progression of kidney damage can be slowed or even stopped

The earliest symptom of nephropathy is the presence of abnormal urinary excretion of protein, called microalbuminuria (albumin is a protein in blood plasma). It can be detected in the laboratory, either from the first-morning-void urine or from a 24-h collected urine sample.

Early detection is also supported by blood urea and creatinine measurements and glomerular filtration rate (GFR).

It is also important to monitor the HbA1c level, the average blood glucose level over the past three months, which provides information on the effectiveness of treatment and dietary adherence.

Achieving normal blood glucose levels can slow the onset of kidney failure through early detection of diabetes, lifestyle changes or appropriate treatment.

HR-Pharma’s organ-specific tests include the Kidney Function Laboratory Package and Kidney PLUS Laboratory Package, which cover blood tests for complex monitoring of kidney function, as well as general urine and sediment tests.

Laboratory tests to measure kidney function are performed on an empty stomach. We are available at our blood collection sites every weekday between 7:00-13:00.
